A Personalized Seven Principles Experience for Couples
Not every couple can attend a group workshop. If your schedule doesn’t allow for the Love That Lasts workshop-or if you prefer a more private setting-the Private Gottman Intensive offers a structured, personalized alternative based on the research of the Gottman Institute and the framework from The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.
This experience blends the depth of couples therapy with the clarity and structure of a workshop-fully tailored to your relationship.
What Is the Private Gottman Intensive?
This is a short-term, skills-based, structured experience designed to help you:
- Strengthen friendship and emotional connection
- Improve communication and conflict management
- Break negative patterns
- Deepen understanding of each other’s inner worlds
- Build shared meaning and long-term resilience
Unlike a group workshop, this intensive is completely customized to your relationship dynamics. Unlike ongoing therapy, it follows a defined structure and timeline.
Format & Structure (7 Hours Total)
Phase 1: Relationship Assessment & Intake (3 Hours Total)
1 Joint Session (60 minutes)
We meet together to:
- Clarify your goals
- Identify strengths and growth areas
- Explore current challenges
- Outline what you’d most like to improve
2 Individual Sessions (60 minutes each)
Each partner meets with me separately to:
- Share your personal relationship history
- Describe your experience of the relationship
- Identify concerns and hopes
- Reflect freely and honestly in a safe space
After the intake phase, you will complete a research-based online relationship assessment developed by the Gottman Institute. I will integrate those results into your customized intensive plan.
Phase 2: The Seven Principles Intensive (2 Sessions, 120 Minutes Each)
These extended sessions allow us to move deeply into application and practice.
Session One: Strengthening the Foundation
- Building Love Maps (deepening understanding)
- Nurturing Fondness & Admiration
- Turning Toward Instead of Away
- Identifying patterns of conflict
- Learning core tools for managing disagreements
You’ll begin applying these principles directly to real situations in your relationship.
Session Two: Managing Conflict & Creating Shared Meaning
- Practical conflict conversations using guided dialogue
- Understanding gridlocked vs. solvable problems
- Supporting each other’s dreams
- Creating rituals of connection
- Designing shared meaning and long-term vision
We’ll develop clear, realistic next steps for continued growth.
Between-Session Practice
You’ll receive guided homework between sessions to reinforce what we explore.
You’ll also receive direction on how to work with The Seven Principles book and workbook in a way that is specific to your relationship.
This ensures the work continues beyond our time together.
Important Scope Clarification
The Private Gottman Intensive is a psychoeducational, skills-based experience grounded in the Seven Principles model. It is structured and time-limited.
If deeper or longer-term therapeutic work is needed, we can discuss transitioning into ongoing couples therapy after the intensive is complete.
